The Velours came to fruition during the mid-'50s, at the height of the Doo-Wop era, hailing from the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. The members included Jerome Ramos and John Cheatdom (previously from a group called the Melody Men). They teamed up with Marvin Holland and Sammy Gardner to form another group called the Troubadours. The Troubadours then became the Velours.
In 1961, the group went their separate ways. Later, in 1968, The Velours became the Fantastics, who continued to record and perform into the next decade. To this date John Cheatdom is still performing!
J.D. began his professional career as a member of the Fantastics. It is thanks to J.D.’s dad and John Cheatdom that J.D. became part of The Fantastics.
